Complaint CalcioMercato Arsenal are leading the race to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid this summer – ahead of Milan and other interested parties. Asensio is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract with Real.
Asensio, 26, has already registered 229 appearances for Madrid since joining the first team – having participated in 70 goals, scoring 47 himself and providing 23 assists. But his future is uncertain and he could leave.
An earlier report from the Sunday Mirror (10/04, p73) claim Madrid are ready to part ways with the Spain international for just £30m – £384m less than their whopping £414m release clause (shimmer).
Thus, Arsenal could land the attacking midfielder for a favorable fee in the upcoming window. They have a good relationship with Madrid, buying Martin Odegaard from the Bernabeu last summer for £40m.

Arsenal win Asensio race: Why Gunners probably don’t need him
Asensio is capable of magic. A player with huge talent, but probably not showing it consistently. He certainly improves Arsenal, but the Gunners need other players far more than Asensio.
They really need two forwards – with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract. A high-level midfielder to accompany Thomas Partey. Cover at the back and potentially replace Bernd Leno.
In role 10 they have a number of players – Odegaard, Emile Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka and more. Do they really need Asensio? Not as much as players in other positions.
