Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday October 1 in the Premier League. Manager Mikel Arteta will be eager for a victory over his local rivals to keep his side ahead of the pack.
In the meantime, the Gunners remain interested in a Lyon midfielder. Elsewhere, renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says the north London side are not in talks to sign a striker from Juventus.
On that note, here’s a rundown of Arsenal’s top transfer stories as of September 26, 2022:
Arsenal remain interested in Houssem Aouar
Arsenal have retained their interest in Houssem Aouar, according to Fichajes via Caught offside. The French midfielder has gone from strength to strength since rising through the ranks at the club. However, he has struggled for playing time this campaign and looks set to leave this summer when his contract expires.
The Gunners remain keen to bring him to the Emirates after failing in their previous efforts. Aouar’s ability to operate as an attacking midfielder or deep playmaker makes him an attractive proposition for Arteta. However, the north London side could face competition from Juventus and Newcastle United for his signature.
Gunners not in talks to sign Dusan Vlahovic, says Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are not in talks to sign Dusan Vlahovic in 2023.
The Serb was a long-term target for the north London side but opted to join Juventus from Fiorentina in January. Recent reports have claimed that the Gunners remain on the hunt for the 22-year-old.
However, in his column for Caught offsideRomano said the club were not in contact with the player.
“At the moment there is absolutely nothing between Dusan Vlahovic and Arsenal. We cannot predict the future, but at the moment there is not even direct contact. Vlahovic is a key player for Juventus, and they invested 75 million euros plus add-ons for him, so it’s (moving to Arsenal) extremely unlikely,” Romano said.
Romano added that Vlahovic’s struggles this season are partly due to the team’s poor collective form.
“He was great last season with Juventus; this year not all players are performing so I don’t think it’s Vlahovic’s fault that he hasn’t played at his best yet,” Romano said.
Vlahovic has scored four goals in eight appearances this season.
Arsenal were close to securing Federico Valverde in 2014
Arsenal were close to securing the signing of Federico Valverde in 2014 before he joined Real Madrid, according to AS via Caught offside.
The Uruguayan midfielder has been outstanding for the La Liga giants recently. However, he could have ply his trade in the Emirates if things had turned out differently.
The player had appeared on the Gunners’ radar in 2014. His agents had traveled to London to help facilitate a move, and a deal was verbally agreed. However, the Premier League side opted not to add the player to their ranks. Valverde then impressed in the South American Under-17 Championships.
His performances won him admirers at the Santiago Bernabeu. Arsenal came back for the player and were ready to offer £2.7m for his signature. However, the Uruguayan then decided to join Los Blancos.
