Fenerbahce chairman Ali Koc has revealed Jose Mourinho tried to sign rumored Tottenham target Kim Min-jae a year ago.

Spurs were heavily linked with Kim over the summer of 2020, with multiple sources (SPOT News and 90 minutes) reporting at the time that the North London club were trying to land him from Beijing Guoan.

The centre-back left the Chinese club to join Fenerbahce last summer and is enjoying an impressive debut season in Turkish football.

Turkish release photospor reported ahead of the January transfer window that Spurs had been impressed with the 25-year-old’s performance for the Super Lig giants.

Kim would still be on Tottenham’s radar, along with a Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda claiming last month that the Lilywhites had sent scouts to Turkey to monitor the centre-back this season.

CNN Turkish went on to reveal that Spurs had even opened talks with Fenerbahce over a deal for the South Korea international this summer.

Koch has now revealed Mourinho wanted to sign Kim 12 months ago but the transfer fee has proven to be the sticking point.

Fenerbahce president said Gazette Vatan“There is great interest in our five or six of our players. However, it is very difficult to replace them all.

“Jose Mourinho wanted Kim Min-jae a year ago. They didn’t pay the 14m euros (about £12m).

Boosts web opinion

It’s unclear whether Koch means Mourinho wanted to bring Kim to Spurs or tried to take him to Roma last summer. I suspect it was the latter, although we were also linked with a move for the 25-year-old when the Portuguese manager was in charge.
