The Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund will host a “Launch Party” on September 17 at the Bedford Elks Club. The launch party takes place before the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in the fall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and food stations will open at 6 p.m. Starting at 7 p.m., the “Flying Ivories” will perform on dueling pianos that will deliver a song on demand, part music, part comedy. The cost to attend is $30 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Founders Crossing in Bedford, Edward Jones in Everett or from any member of the Pink Ribbon Fund Board of Directors. The Bedford County Pink Fund is a non-profit organization that supports women and men in their fight against breast cancer.

The 24th annual “Cancer Shoot” will be held July 16 at the Everett Sportsmen’s Club. This is a shot of 50 birds (clay pigeon). Registration will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of filming is $20. There will be food and a Chinese auction. All proceeds benefit the Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund. Imler Area Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a final bingo session on July 16. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. The kitchen will be open to buy food. The cost to play will be $20 for bingo sheets and $1 for each special game.

Fishertown Ridgettes alumni and banner bearers can twirl or march during the Shawnee Valley Firefighters Parade in Schellsburg on Sept. 1. Bedford Area Photography Club is running an online photography contest and is accepting submissions of Planner’s Calendar photographs. The club competition has three categories: people, nature and open. Photo entries in these categories are not limited to Bedford County and can be taken from any location. Cash prizes will be awarded in each subject. All photos taken will be posted on the Bedford Area Photo Club Facebook page beginning September 1. The deadline for registration is July 31. The Truck and Dealer Show will be hosted by the Antique Truck Club of America from noon to 5 p.m. July 22 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 23 at Through Inc., 139 Municipal St., East Freedom. Registration and admission will be free. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Roaring Spring Library and Through Inc. Vendors will display their wares. Shawnee Valley Fire Company Community Helpers will be hosting a Chicken BBQ on July 30, with pick-up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Shawnee Valley Fire Hall. Each meal will consist of half a chicken, two sides, a bun and a bottle of water. The cost will be $12. Meals will be prepared by The Chick’n Wagon. Everett Lions Club will be sponsoring a Night of Racing fundraiser in support of the Weicht/Hartsock Medal of Honor statue at the corner of Main and Hopewell streets. The races will take place on October 15 at the Down River Golf Course starting at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for those who wish to eat in advance. There will be 10 races and a special auction race, all previously recorded across the country and shown on video screens. Participants can “buy” and name a horse for $25. Horse tickets entitle you to one entry to the event. Jockeys are also available for sale for $25, although seating is limited for the ticket. Horse and jockey ticket holders earn $50. During the event, participants can bet a minimum of $2 per race on their favorite horse or horses in the lineup, with cash prizes for the winners. The Lions are also looking for program companies and individual patrons for $10 to support the statue project, and horse and jockey sponsors are available for $50. The Bedford County Garden Club will host a National Garden Club Horticultural Specialty Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at Bedford Presbyterian Church. The event is free and open to the public to attend or enter. Categories will include flowering annuals, perennials and biennials, decorative perennial foliage, bulb flowers, hostas, herbs, container grown flowering plants, foliage container grown plants, combination plantings, trees or vegetables. The Bloody Run Historical Society’s historical exhibit at the Everett Free Library in July will be a continuation of the June exhibit, featuring a “Where Were They Located?” quiz. plus an exhibit of photos and articles about Everett’s first graduate, S. Howard Gump, and the Gibboney family, owners of the Cottage Planing Mill. On July 17, at 2 p.m., the society will host its second annual Floyd Cornell Magic Show. Don Foor will make a special appearance. There is no admission to the show; donations are appreciated.

The Alumni Reunion Dinner for pre-1958 Smith, Replogle and Woodbury School graduates and 1958-1962 NBC classes will be held Oct. 8 at the former Replogle Elementary School in New Enterprise. Social time will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. The Loysburg Theater group will entertain. Newsletters will be sent out later this summer.
