The club is pushing for a triple deal

With Tyrell Malacia in the bag, Manchester United are pushing for a treble deal to follow him which could dramatically change the squad.

Athleticism United report are closing in on Lisandro Martinez, with a deal also in place to sign Christian Eriksen, and a fee agreed with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong.

These are three major players who will make United instantly more competitive, strengthening defense and midfield.

Ronaldo was also undeterred watching United’s 4-0 win over Liverpool in pre-season. It doesn’t count for anything, but it showed that the work of new boss Erik ten Hag is having a positive effect on the rejuvenation of the team.

The only problem Ronaldo signings can’t solve

Ronaldo’s biggest gripe, report BBC Sportsit’s the prospect of playing Europa League football for the very first time this season, after Manchester United failed to make the top four.

The report says: ‘It’s not something he watches with relish’, in the hope that a ‘more attractive option’ may materialise, i.e. an offer of football in the League of Nations. champions.

But Ronaldo’s combination of age, salary demands and overbearing, all-consuming presence has seen top clubs back down, and he apparently has no credible offers.

He could find himself stuck at United, and the club are doing their best now to resolve their frustrations over the lack of transfer action.

United won’t be strong enough to mount a league challenge next season, which can’t be solved in a year, but a serious cut in the cup competitions should be within reach.

If Ronaldo can accept United’s new management under the positivity of Erik ten Hag, then there is a future for him at Old Trafford in 2022/23.

But if he just can’t overcome the Europa League problem, it doesn’t matter if United sign 10 players, the fact that the club are in UEFA B competition cannot be changed.

He should thank his lucky stars Brighton beat West Ham on the final day to save United from falling into the Europa Conference League.
