Garden Club Holds Annual Luncheon – Eagle News Online


The Skaneateles Garden Club recently hosted their annual Spring Awakening themed luncheon at the Skaneateles Country Club.

There were 85 members and guests present.

Awards were given to Jody Recckmeyer for 50 years of membership, Nancy Easter, Susan Hayden and Anne McElroy for 25 years of membership.

After the lakeside lunch, program chair Nancy Rudl introduced guest speaker Laura Clare, owner of Laura Clare Design in Bernardsville, NJ.

Clare has designed creative floral designs in New Jersey, Manhattan, New York State, Pennsylvania and Europe.

She graduated from Cornell with a degree in horticulture. She has a wonderful eye for color and uses her own technique to design her arrangements. She has created many designs for celebrities such as Sting, Elton John and many more.

After the program, a raffle of many gardening items was held.

This included five arrangements by Laura Clare.

“We are fortunate to have excellent program chairs who bring in guest speakers to further educate us in our quest to become more knowledgeable gardeners in the way we treat our planet,” the club said in a press release. . “We have members who are Horticulture Judges, National Garden Clubs (NGC) Flower Show Judges, NGC Landscape Consultants, NGC Accredited Garden Consultants, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program. We are attached to our civic duty of beautifying our community.

The club also announced the upcoming programme, including the design of a new garden in honor of longtime member PJ Lemp near the entrance to the newly refurbished Barrow Art Gallery and hanging baskets will soon be done. their appearance in the village. This tradition was started many years ago by member Shirley Feldmann. Plans are underway for a visit to the garden in 2023.
