Benton County Democrats

Benton County Democrats will meet at noon July 25 at Golden Corral, 2605 W. Pleasant Crossing Drive in Rogers. Social time and lunch begin at 11 a.m. It is also possible to attend via Zoom.

This month’s featured speaker is Lauren Mallett-Hays, Democratic U.S. House candidate, District 3, Arkansas. Mallett-Hays challenges Republican incumbent US Representative Steve Womack in November.



Camp McPherson, Sons of Civil War Union Veterans, will meet at 7 p.m. July 26 at the Whole Hog Cafe, 1400 SE Walton Blvd. in Bentonville. Members will meet at 6:00 p.m. for dinner. The SUV is a patriotic and fraternal organization of descendants of members of the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or who served as government officials from 1861 to 1865.

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. July 25 at the Bentonville Public Library at 405 S. Main St. The speaker will be Mike Freels, NAGS officer, who will speak about cemeteries. He was active in the Washington County Cemetery Preservation Group for many years as well as other cemetery and genealogy groups. The public is welcome.

hill hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, invite all interested walkers to a walk on July 27 in Bentonville. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Casey’s convenience store at 100 SE “J” St. There is a $3 fee for credit and $2 for non-credit.

The walk will start and end at Park Springs Park, where participants will choose a 5K or 10K walk.

Membership dues for Ozark Hill Hikers are $12 per year, pro-rated $1 for each month remaining in the calendar year.

computer club

The Bella Vista Computer Club meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in room 1001 on the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista.

The next class scheduled for July will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. July 27: Computer Security for Everyday People, Part 2 (Justin Sell.)

The next aid clinic will be from 9:00 a.m. to noon on August 6.

New members and visitors are welcome at general meetings. Annual BVCC membership is $25 for the first member of a household and $10 for each additional member of the household.



Altrusa members bring a smile to all meetings by sharing time and talents in a fun and friendly atmosphere. A welcoming atmosphere ensures that you are included in the club’s responsibilities and decisions, that everyone knows what the club is doing, and provides enough flexibility for you to spend your time in a way that suits you.

Altrusa members are always looking for partners to help us improve our communities. Meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

Library Friends

Friends of the Bentonville Library is hosting a children’s book sale July 28-30 inside the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St., featuring over 40,000 books for babies and young adults. Each child present can choose a free book of their choice. Most hardbacks will cost $1 and most paperbacks will cost 50 cents. Only educators can shop Educator Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 28 and receive a 25% Educator Appreciation discount (includes home educators).

Members of the Friends of the Library are invited to shop before the public sale from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 28. Annual subscriptions are on sale at the door. Students (18 and under) are $3, individuals $10, and family memberships $25. Annual subscriptions include a free paperback each month from the library’s Read It Again bookstore.

The public sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 29 and 30.

The Benton County Master Gardeners will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Bentonville Christ Church, 816 NW Eighth St. in Bentonville. The meeting will feature the Benton County Fair Committee. The subject is the contribution of master gardeners to the county fair. Meetings are open to the public.

Master gardeners are volunteers who are trained in horticulture and share their training by participating in community projects.


Civil war

The Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. on August 4 at Cooper Chapel. The guest speaker will be Dr. Curt Fields, a nationally recognized presenter on Gen. US Grant. A guard of honor will greet the general upon his arrival at the chapel.
