Leeds United are close to signing Brenden Aaronson with Red Bull Salzburg only accepting a deal because the playmaker is so desperate to make the move.

Leeds secured their Premier League status on Sunday afternoon by beating Brentford 2-1 in west London.

After a dramatic and often chaotic push for survival, Leeds are finally safe and can plan for next season.

It is abundantly clear that Leeds now need to strengthen their squad; their depth just wasn’t enough and the team seemed stretched on several occasions.

Hours after the end of the Premier League season, it looks like Leeds already have their first signing almost complete in Aaronson.

Leeds United set to sign Brenden Aaronson

MLS Football Report that Leeds are finalizing a deal worth around $30m (£24m) to sign Aaronson this summer.

It is said that a deal has been in place for some time now, but it was dependent on Leeds staying in the Premier League.

With Leeds now confirmed as safe, the deal will go through and Aaronson will become Leeds’ first summer signing.

If Leeds had dropped, it is said there was no guarantee Salzburg would have sold Aaronson.

Salzburg weren’t looking to sell, but Aaronson was so keen to join Leeds that they approved the deal.

It is also worth noting that the fees Leeds pay would have been difficult for other clubs to match.

Aaronson was heavily linked with Leeds in January but they failed to convince Salzburg to sell.

Leeds then appointed Jesse Marsch to replace Marcelo Bielsa, and American coach who will have known his compatriot very well.

Aaronson, 21, has six goals and 10 assists this season and has already been hailed as a “great player” by Leeds boss Marsch.

Backed for a huge future, Aaronson is absolutely the kind of signal of intent Leeds need after a frustrating season.
