PARKERSBURG — The GFWC Parkersburg Woman’s Club Civic Engagement and Outreach Community Service Program hosted a luncheon program at the Clubhouse for local members and veterans.

The program included representatives from Wood County Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 32 and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1084 from West Virginia.

Members of the Marine Corps League held a special flag-folding ceremony in which a descriptive interpretation of the meaning assigned to each fold was read. The flag was then presented to the Woman’s Club as a keepsake and will be displayed in a place of honor at the Club House to showcase the GFWC-WV State President’s HEROES theme.

Jerry Smith provided an informative talk on working to benefit veterans by the local Marine Corps League and DAV Chapter. Club members were delighted and honored to share the afternoon in conversation with the veterans and, as they departed, presented them with a special gift to the Pantry of Chapter #32. The working lunch also served as a kicking off the month of food drives sponsored by the Parkersburg Woman’s Club to benefit DAV Chapter 32.
