According to Italian point of sale ANSA, Newcastle have submitted a bid to secure a double deal for Atalanta stars Duvan Zapata and Robin Gosens.

The Magpies have already signed a striker and full-back in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier. However, Eddie Howe is not done yet and is looking for another centre-forward and full-back on the opposite side.

Newcastle have already been linked with numerous names for both positions. Money is no longer an issue for them and if a latest report is to be believed, they have tabled a big offer to sign two players from the same club.

Zapata and Gosens would be very high on Howe’s wish list.

Newcastle offer £42m for Gosens and Zapata

The report claims that Newcastle have made a double offer worth £42m (€50m) to sign Zapata and Gosens.

Both Atalanta stars have been amazing in recent years.

Zapata, compared to Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku by Riccardo Ferri, has scored nine goals in 14 Serie A starts this season, while Gosens, described as “incredible” by former Germany boss Joachim Low, impressed despite an injury campaign.

Newcastle have tabled a big offer to sign both team-mates but if the report is to be believed, Atalanta are close to rejecting the offer as they feel it’s not big enough.

TBR view:

Zapata is a proven goalscorer who has been brilliant in Italy in recent years. However, the Colombian is already 30 and would only be a short-term option for the Magpies which isn’t ideal, especially after Wood’s arrival.

As for Gosens, he would be an incredible recruit. The Germany international has consistently proven his quality for club and country in recent years. He’s a fantastic option at left-back and he’s even better as a wing-back or as a left-midfielder if Howe wants to use him higher up the pitch.

Zapata and Gosens, if they got going, would be fantastic for Newcastle, but Howe should really prioritize the latter.

However, he has only played just over 550 minutes of football all season and hasn’t played a game since September due to injury. It’s a serious concern, but if the Newcastle medical team gives the all clear, Howe should do everything for him this month.
