Carlisle United have joined the pursuit of Rangers striker Josh McPake, Football Insider understand.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan with Tranmere Rovers in England’s League Two.
An Ibrox source said Football Insider that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will now watch him ahead of the season having been impressed with his attitude since returning from his loan spell with Tranmere.
Football Insider reported last month (4 May) that Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers were aiming to blackmail Rangers’ McPake.
He amassed 62 senior appearances in all competitions, including one for Rangers.
Steven Gerrard gave him his Gers debut in a 6-0 win over Gibraltar’s St Joseph’s FC in the Europa League qualifiers in July 2019.
He spent the first half of the 2021-22 season on loan with Morecambe in League One but struggled for a few minutes through injury before moving to Tranmere in January.
The Scotland Under-21 international has scored once in 14 League Two appearances for the Merseyside club.
He fell out of favor towards the end of the season and played just 12 minutes of football in the last eight games of the season as Tranmere finished ninth, just two points from the play-off places.
