SportItalia journalist Rudy Galetti said AS Roma could make a move for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga in the January transfer window.

Tanganga was linked with a move to Roma over the summer, with some reports even suggesting the defender could potentially have been used as a counterweight by the north London club as part of a deal to sign Nicolo Zaniolo (AS Roma live).

The Giallorossi weren’t the only ones credited with an interest in the Spurs academy graduate, with the likes of AC Milan (Football Insider), Inter (Gianluca Di Marzio), Leeds United (TuttoMercatoWeb) and Nottingham Forest (Athleticism) have also been mooted as potential destinations for the defender.

While a transfer failed to materialize for Tanganga this summer, Galetti has now suggested he could be on the move in January.

The journalist has revealed that Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a centre-back in the next transfer window and that Roma are expected to make contact with the 23-year-old regarding a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The report explains that the Serie A club will also speak with representatives of Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Boosts web opinion

It seems likely that Tanganga will be sold in January while Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr would be allowed to leave on loan.

If that happens, Conte will want to bring in another centre-back as a substitute and potentially a striker of Malinovskyi’s profile, who can play in the middle or on the outside.
